DSS ISE reveals key market intelligence

Over 100 delegates from 35 countries attended the first Digital Signage Summit held at Integrated Systems Europe, the world’s largest AV and systems integration exhibition in early February 2017.

Taking place for half-a-day, the single-track conference tackled the theme of Digital Signage at the Crossroads: New Technologies, Changing Demands and Market Consolidations.  Chaired by invidis consulting Managing Director Florian Rotberg the conference featured five sessions with participation from11 leading digital signage experts that explored the evolving global landscape for Digital Signage and DooH.

Sessions ranged from a Fireside Talk between Rotberg and Chris Riegel, CEO of STRATACACHE, to a five-person Worldwide Industry Outlook Panel featuring, Bob Raikes, Managing Director of Meko Market Research; Federico Freyia, Director of Asociacion Digital Signage, Mexico; Richard Ventura, Chairman of the Digital Signage Federation and VP Business Development & Solutions for NEC Display Solutions of America; Sergey Galeyev, Co-Founder and CEO of AddReality Russia and Stewart Caddick, Managing Director of Connectiv Middle East.

A clear message from the Panel was that ‘Content was King!’ According to Caddick: “You can’t spend 90% on a screen and just 10% on the content – it just doesn’t work. Digital signage is a living animal and once you buy it you have to keep feeding it!”

Other highlights included presentations from Vidya Nagarajan, Senior Product Manager Chrome & Android, Google, on Creating the Smart Retail Store of the Future and from Jose Avalos, Global Visual Retail Director for Intel Corporation in the Internet of Things Group, who spoke on The Internet of Things as a Disruptive Force.

Nagajaran said that the “retail industry is on the cusp of a revolution and that digital signage will play a key role in its transformation.” She went on to say that Google sees huge opportunities in the retail marketplace – “90% of retail sales happen in bricks and mortar stores,” she explained.

Avalos revealed that digital signage was bringing new functionality to everyday devices, such as vending machines, and that this type of information was becoming increasingly essential for consumers and thus creating more opportunities for digital signage companies.

Phillipe von Stauffenberg, Chairman of TRISON, discussed Growing Global – Evolving from an Audio Specialist to a Truly Global Digital Signage Integrator. Discussing investment opportunities he admitted that his worse investment was in 3D – “it bombed!” he revealed.

Rotberg concluded: “Many markets that were closed to digital signage because of a lack of ROI are now open to it, with retail being the biggest one. DSS ISE has helped move the conversation forward with some key insights and education for the attendees. We look forward to building on the success of DSS ISE next year”

The Integration Systems Europe exhibition features over 450 companies producing products and services for the digital signage industry. The Digital Signage Summit series of events is a joint venture between Integrated Systems Events and digital signage specialist invidis consulting.

The Next DSS event is the DSS Europe 2017 taking place in Munich on 5-6 July.

The next DSS ISE will take place on 7 February 2018.
